I think I get what this was. A test of faith in herself. She Dwarf has to be able to see herself as a dwarf before being accepted as one. So that is why the cockatrice was kept around as were the statues. They never intended her to turn to stone. They wanted to see if she was brave enough to believe she wouldn’t become stone upon facing the cockatrice’s gaze.

Plus, I kind of like Hack’s new look.
